Visit of Barbara Pompili, the French President’s Special Envoy for the One Water Summit [fr]

The French Embassy was honored to receive Ms. Barbara Pompili, former Minister for the Ecological Transition and now the French President’s Special Envoy for the One Water Summit and Special Advisor for International Affairs at the General Secretariat for Ecological Planning.

During her visit in Singapore Ms. Barbara Pompili had insightful meetings with President Tharman, Co-Chair of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, and representatives from PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the National Environment Agency, and the National Climate Change Secretariat.

She also had in-depth discussions with French companies contributing to Singapore’s ecological transition, and fruitful exchanges with climate lead negotiator Joseph Teo.

These discussions highlighted the critical role of water in combating climate change and the need for international cooperation, particularly at the upcoming #OneWaterSummit, organized by #France and #Kazakhstan at the end of 2024. They also stressed the importance of implementing concrete measures in daily life to achieve #carbonneutrality.

Exciting moments with Barbara Pompili as part of the France-Singapore Joint Year of Sustainability!

Barbara Pompili has been a prominent figure in political ecology for almost 20 years. She has held various significant roles in French politics, including Secretary of State for Biodiversity, Member of Parliament, Minister for Ecological Transition, and Chair of the European Union’s environment and energy councils. Currently, she serves as the French President’s Special Envoy for the One Water Summit and Chair of the OECD Water Governance Initiative.

Barbara Pompili engaged in meaningful discussions on pressing ecological issues and sustainable urban development.

During her visit to Singapore she discussed topics like the upcoming One Water Summit and the challenges and opportunities in ecological planning and urban sustainability.

As Singapore and France deepen their cooperation in the sustainabilty, maritime and renewable energy sectors, Barbara explores synergies and shares her expertise on these critical issues.
