Visit by Alain Vidalies, Minister of State for Transport, Marine Affairs & Fisheries
Alain Vidalies, French Minister of State for Transport, Marine Affairs & Fisheries visited Singapore from 14 to 16 February 2016 for the 2016 edition of Singapore Airshow, the largest air show in Asia during which France was the feature country.
He accompanied more than 60 French companies, including 50 SMEs and around 20 CEOs. This was a major event for the French aerospace industry at the very heart of a vibrant asian market. Aircrafts indeed represent more than 40 % of French exports to ASEAN.
During his visit, Alain Vidalies met with his malaysian counterpart Dato ’Sri Liow tiong Lai. They addressed the key issues of the Franco-Malaysian bilateral cooperation in the fields of civil aircraft, airport and rail infrastructure. Mr Vidalies and Dato ’Sri Liow tiong Lai also discussed the implementation of the COP21 agreement in the field of transport.
Alain Vidalies also gave a speech about hubs, drones and environment at the Aviation Leaders Summit, an important meeting for the air transport leaders.
He also visited the port of Singapore and a MRT construction site on which the French tunnel boring machine NFM Technologies is operating.
The Ministry of State met his Singaporean counterpart Khaw Boon Wan. "The exceptional dynamism of the Asian region fully benefits our French firms. Our manufacturing presence in the aviation sector in Singapore has grown in recent decades, reflecting the confidence that binds our industries and more broadly our two countries. I wish this dynamic and long-term partnership will continue" welcomed Alain Vidalies.
His visit ended with a cocktail at the Residence of France in the presence of Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, General André Lanata, Chief of Staff of the French Air Force, HE Mr. Benjamin Dubertret, Ambassador of France to Singapore, Didier Malet representing the Directorate General for Armaments, Marwan Lahoud, GIFAS (the French aerospace trade organization) chairman, French firms and GIFAS representatives.
