State Visit to Singapore by French President François Hollande [fr]
President of the French Republic François Hollande made a State Visit to Singapore on 26 and 27 March 2017. In addition to reaffirming the excellent bilateral relations between our two countries, this visit provided the opportunity to strengthen our strategic partnership, particularly in the area of innovation.

On 26 March, President Hollande visited Singapore’s ESSEC Asia Pacific campus where he met students and faculty. He also discussed with entrepreneurs and members of the French tech community in Singapore. An official welcome ceremony took place at Istana with Singapore President Dr Tony Tan followeb by a state banquet.
On 27 March, French President attended the traditional orchid naming ceremony during which an orchid was named in his honour. He then opened with Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam the Singapore-France Innovation Forum, attended by more than 400 representatives of companies, research institutes and institutions. President Hollande jointly launched with Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan a joint venture between CMA CGM and PSA to operate four mega container berths at the new Pasir Panjang Terminal.
President Hollande called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. During their call, the two leaders reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between our two countries and adopted a Joint Declaration on Innovation between France and Singapore. France and Singapore enjoy good cooperation in the defence, cybersecurity, economic, education and research, as well as cultural sectors, based on shared interests and a common global vision. To build on the Strategic Partnership signed between our two countries in 2012,President Hollande and Prime Minister Lee agreed to intensify cooperation on innovation. France and Singapore have prioritised the strengthening of their respective innovation ecosystems, including programmes to promote research and development (R&D), as well as support entrepreneurship in innovative sectors.
French President delivered the 40th Singapore Lecture, titled “France and Singapore, Strategic Partners in a Fast-Changing World”, which was moderated by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Before attending the reception in honour of the French community, President Hollande visited the National Gallery Singapore with its Gallery Director Eugene Tan and French Architect Jean-François Milou.
President Hollande was accompanied by Minister of Defence Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister of State for Development and Francophonie Jean-Marie Le Guen, Minister of State for the Industry, Digital Sector and Innovation Christophe Sirugue, senior officials and a business delegation.
