New Year Message of Mr. Benjamin Dubertret, French Ambassador to Singapore
As 2015 comes to a close, it is the perfect time to look back at this special year which marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Singapore.
We have celebrated this unique occasion with the State visit of President Tony Tan to France in May, but also with Voilah !, the French cultural festival in Singapore, and the Singapore in France festival in spring which both drew hundreds of thousands of people eager to discover French and Singaporean cultures.
The past year has also brought testing times with the vicious terrorist attacks which struck France both in January and in November, but our country is resilient and has the strength to face up to the challenge of violent extremism and terrorism, along with our many partners in Europe but also in Asia, including Singapore.
The last few days have brought immense optimism with the historic Paris climate agreement which was agreed on December 12, and which ushers in a new era for the global fight against climate change and for the necessary transition to a low-carbon economy.
Along with the rest of the French Embassy team in Singapore, I would like to wish you happiness and success for 2016.
Ambassador of France to Singapore
