Jean-Yves Le Drian in Singapore for the 15th Shangri-la Dialogue [fr]
Jean-Yves Le Drian was in Singapore, from 3 to 5 June 2016 for the 15th edition of the Shangri-La Dialogue. The Minister of Defence spoke on security issues and prospects for French commitment in Asia-Pacific.
Initiated in 2002 in response to the clear need for a forum where the Asia-Pacific’s defence ministers could engage in dialogue aimed at building confidence and fostering practical security cooperation, the Asia Security Summit – or IISS Shangri-La Dialogue – has established itself as a key element of the emerging regional security architecture. It is the most important regular gathering of defence professionals in the region and has become a vital annual fixture in the diaries of Asia-Pacific defence ministers and their civilian and military chiefs of staff.
The Singapore Shangri-La Dialogue brought together 600 delegates, including 20 defence ministers from ASEAN, Asia, Europe and the US.
Louis Gautier, Secretary General for Defence & National Security of France, Philippe Errera, Director of Strategic Affairs of the Ministry for Defence and Vice-Amiral Anne Cullerre, on behalf of the Chief of Staff of the French Army, attended this regional meeting and took part in bilateral meetings.
