France’s Ambassador for Digital Affairs in Singapore to strengthen bilateral cooperation [fr]

Mr. Henri Verdier, France’s Ambassador for Digital Affairs was in Singapore from 22nd to 24th May. His working visit aimed at implementing the joint roadmap for deepening cooperation in digital innovation, internet governance and cybersecurity signed last July by President Emmanuel Macron and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. During his visit, he met French and Singaporean key stakeholders in Tech, Artificial Intelligence, data protection and digital areas.

Mr. Verdier co-chaired with Calvin Chong Director (Planning and International) Strategic Division from the Ministry of Communications and Information, a roundtable on the implementation of the joint roadmap. This meeting gathered the main players working on digital affairs such as AI Singapore, the Infocomm Media Development Authority, the Personal Data Protection Commission, the Smart Nation and Digital Group Office and the Cyber Security Agency. The issues related to AI, data protection, digitalization of administrations, cyberspace were at the heart of the discussion. Our two countries share many similarities in their program for digital development (internet access portals, digital identity cards…) and support a stable, secure, free, open and trusted cyberspace. Ambassador Verdier also met with Mr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport & Ministry of Communications and Information.

Among the economic actors whom Mr. Verdier met were representatives of ATOS group, the leader of digital transformation whose regional head quarter are located in Singapore; Lazada, and Dassault Systèmes. The latter made a presentation of Virtual Singapore, a 3D modeling project of Singapore led by Dassault Systèmes in partnership with the National Research Foundation (NRF). Ambassador exchanged with the French Tech Singapore and visited the Future Now Innovation Center of Singtel where AI is applied to the smart city (IOT, 5G, IA, security).

Mr Verdier’s program ended by a dinner with key representatives from Singaporean political institutions and universities. Topics like Artificial Intelligence, Singapore’s strategy regarding AI, the role of AI Singapore, the funding of AI research and France-Singapore collaborations were discussed during the dinner.
