Agnès Pannier-Runacher, French Secretary of State visits Singapore [fr]
Agnès Pannier-Runacher, French Secretary of State for Finance and Economy, was in Singapore for 2 days (18 September - 19 September) to speak at the Women’s Forum Asia 2019. She had the privilege to share a keynote speech at Women’s Forum Asia 2019 where she talked about the importance of establishing gender equality in the workplace and the initiatives taken by both Singapore and France to empower women.
During her visit to Singapore, Mrs Pannier-Runacher met with Singapore’s President Halimah Yacob, Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister of Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing and Minister of Manpower Josephine Teo.
On top of participating in the Women’s Forum Asia 2019. Mrs Pannier-Runacher also visited some industrial sites where she learnt more about the breakthroughs Singapore and French companies have achieved. She visited STMicroelectronics, a French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturer with CEO Jean-Marc Chery as he showed her around the facilities. She also paid a visit to ‘Blue Hub’ Bolloré Logistics, CEO Asia-Pacific Cyril Dumon shares the next-generation building which will combine sustainable development and innovation in an impressive 50,000sqm fully automated warehouse. She took a peek at Astar’s (The Agency for Science, Technology and Research) Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Center, this center allows companies- both MNCs and SMEs- test more than 10 types of advanced manufacturing technologies. She ended off her series of visitations at the center of port operations and the port terminal CMA- CGM.
The Secretary of State also met up with a few key individuals during her time here in Singapore, this is conducted to strengthen the France Singapore relations. She started her visit by having breakfast with the heads of French industrial companies based in Singapore to hear more about how French businesses are performing in Singapore. A meeting with women in business and industry was also held before Women’s Forum Asia 2019. She also met with three Singapore politicians: Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister of Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing and Minister of Manpower Josephine Teo. The bilateral relations that are strengthened through this visit will be sustained as France and Singapore share common goals and initiatives such as Industry 4.0, and achieving gender equality in the workforce.
